The New Year!

We have started the second semester of our school year! The children are working hard and getting back into the routine of the classroom schedule. (Vacations can be hard on children, especially those that are a bit young or immature.)

We have had two sets of testing this month and most of the children have shown great growth. We have done our mid-year Kinderboost testing in the district, screening the children most at risk. We may have some child placement changes in the district program. We have also had a former Kindergarten teacher come in and do a district-wide screening using the materials from the University of Oregon called DIBELS. All of the K-4 children in the district take these exams one-on-one with the tester. Then they are compared to other children through-out the nation to see how we are scoring. If you are interested in seeing your child's testing, please let me know.

It is a great time of year to spend extra time reading with your child. It is easier to get them to sit when it is too nasty to be outside! Ask your child about favorite authors and see if you can find some of them at the public library. Also, be sure to have your child find the site words we are working on in class. They love to do that! Our words are I, see, a, like, to, go, and, my. We will be introducing is this week and here next week.
